Diet Plans
Diet Plans - Sense or Senseless?
As with most ventures in our life, planning and preparing helps to succeed. I am sure you know the saying about the 5 Pīs: Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance! And the same goes for Dieting. Do not just say: "Now I will go on a Diet!" and leave everything else to fate. Actually take the time, inform yourself, make a plan and then follow this Diet Plan rigorously.
There a re a few obstacles on the way. Nowadays, with such a high percentage of people being overweight, you will find Diet plan over Diet plan in newspapers and magazines, because Weight Loss and Diets have become a multi-million-euro-business. And, of course, each of these diet plans will be called "best diet plan ever". No matter what it actually contains or what you actually have to do, to achieve weight loss.
Being careful
The problem is some of the proposed Diets and Diet Plans could get dangerous and risky to the health. Yes, the primary goal of every Diet, of every Diet Plan is Weight Loss, but it should happen in a way, which in no way endangers your health. Even during a Diet, you have to take care that your body gets enough nutrients and enough vitamins. It is of no use to you, to lose weight, but end up in the hospital.
Let us just look briefly at an example: the once so famous Grapefruit and Egg Diet, a Diet Plan which made in the seventies and eighties countless families suffer, and converted them to egg-haters, because it was the new talk of the town and many mothers tried it out. For this Diet you needed to eat within 3 weeks: 126 soft boiled eggs and 42 grapefruits. Besides the fact that this Diet Plan just makes you loath both main ingredients of the Diet, modern science would also tell you that 126 eggs within 3 weeks, might be slightly over the limit, considering your cholesterol level.
Another "bright" idea for controlling your weight or for easier Weight Loss, concerns pregnant women. Is it just me, or is it stupid to actually propose to give birth with a caesarean, instead of a natural birth, because it might be easier afterwards, to lose the weight which was gained during pregnancy? Let's take a deep breath and forget about the whole thing very quickly.
Well balanced Diets and Diet Plans
What you actually need, is a Diet Plan, which takes care of all your needs. Ok, weight loss is your number one priority, but do not forget you overall health. So, all Diets which are heavily based on one sort of food (Ananas, Grapefruit...) are to avoid. You will lose weight with this Diet Plan, but your body will suffer and the probability that you gain weight immediately after the Diet again is immense.
What you should be looking for is a Diet Plan, which does not disrupt your life completely, which gives you proper nutrition with all the necessary vitamins and still takes care that you eat less calories than normal.
You should base your Diet Plan on an intelligent way of eating. Take for example the Mediterranean Diet. This Diet is a mixture of all the right ingredients in the right proportions. Enough vitamins, enough proteins, enough of the "good" fats, enough fruits, enough vegetables. Living on this Diet will give you a very good base, because your health will already improve. Now you only have to find a good way, to cut back on the calories. The Weight Loss will follow!
On a final note: Living on the Mediterranean Diet and doing some sports, might prevent the necessity, to even look for Diets and Diet Plans!
