Internet - important source of information worldwide

Nowadays the Internet is the most important source of information worldwide. There is a reason why it is called the "World-Wide-Web". Wherever something happens, somebody will put it on the web immediately.

Let's have a look, how the news reached the people in the past:

In the times before Radio and TV, the only source of information was the newspaper. Obviously, whatever happened was available for common knowledge the earliest the next morning. A journalist had to hear about the news, he had to write an article, this article had to print and then the newspaper had to be distributed.

With the arrival of the TV, the flow of information got remarkably faster. It only took as long, as the camera-team needed to arrive at the scene and the news could be distributed "live" all over the world.

But still, people still were depending on the journalists and the TV-stations. They were deciding which news got distributed. If the TV-station decided something was not newsworthy - it did not get reported.

Today it is the first time in history that everybody can report anything in real-time. Whenever something happens, no matter where, no matter what, no matter when, it can be reported via the internet by anybody who has access to a computer and a telephone line.

We are living in the most democratic area ever. "Normal" people like you and me have the possibility to voice our opinion publicly and to report whatever happens in our surrounding.

The local politician, who gets bribed by the local building-company, has now less chance to get away with it. The life of celebrities gets even more public, because whatever they do and wherever they do something, somebody with a mobile phone with a camera will be close-by and a few minutes later, the secret love affair will not be secret anymore.

One question, however, remains: Do we really need to know everything?
